Somehow, this does not really feel good. Of course, not every drop should be great, Paper Wapped Parcel for example was way too good.

I wish those scrolls did something usefull, Give Wisdom point per use. Anything, really.
yes I got spoiled with the paper parcels. Just opened my 9 royal gifts and got 2 MoH, 5 random crappy scrolls and 1 EXPERT salvage kit, does not feel good at all.

It's rather simple. Why play a game where your characters are going to look like crap unless you grind for very rare stuff? Does that mean I think anet should make all the drops common? no. What it means is they should up the drop rates on stupidly rare things a small bit and a bit more on the useless, yet fun game additions.

All excessive rare items do is drive away causal players because they feel they will never get said items and can't put in the time to grind grind grind for them.

Stupidly high title requirements should be reworked too. A few updates ago City of Heroes, for example, reworked some of their very grindy titles to make them much more reasonable to obtain. They still take a fair time investment but nowhere near what they used to and in a couple cases nigh unobtainable.

Games should be fun for all involved and excessive grinds is not fun. I'm very on the fence about buying GW2 because Anet hasn't shown any indication of changing their bad design philosophy and is spewing the same claptrap they spewed for GW. How often are they going to Nerf skills in GW2? every update like they seem to here? How about farms due to whatever grind they add in GW2? I'll be keeping an eye out to see what HoM adds to GW2, to see if any of that grind is worth it to do.

EDIT: I LIKED GW when it first came out and I LIKED all the campaigns too. I don't like anets excessive nerfing of stuff nor their pathetic drop rates. I own all 3 campaigns as collectors editions due to having enjoyed GW in general.

I always killed everything before I go for the cloak---that way everyone is shooting at it and it goes down pretty fast then (until then it was pretty easy to ignore....I do this with some bosses as well).

oh yeah...another gift another scroll....well at least you can sell these to the merchant I guess.

By now, I've opened around 30 of them. My last five were:

- 3 Lockpicks
- Superior ID Kit
- Mini Princess Salma
- Grail of Might
- Essence of Celerity

Lucky!

Grats Cosy! I've opened close to 150 of the dang gifts, have 12 moh's a few lockpicks and dozens of useless (to me anyway) items, so many I have just started throwing them in the handy trash can in my inventory. Giving up for the time being and will just stockpile supplies till we find out what the medals are for.

I've opened my first 20. (All directly rewarded through Riverside Assassinations, still not spending my war supplies on that crapshoot.) Pretty dissapointing. 6 kits, 4 scrolls, 3 medals and 7 assorted consumables in varying quantities. I wasn't expecting to win the jackpot with just 20, but there's not anything in there even remotely interesting to me except perhaps the medals.

So much of what may come out of these gifts is so incredibly mundane, it's a real downer. Expert salvage kits? Why, every merchant sells those. It's like finding a lot of presents under the christmas tree and opening them in great anticipation, only to find bottles of detergent, boxes of cornflakes and some cleenex.

I mostly get scrolls & medals of honour, lokums and rations. The 5 I got from doing the quest that gives 5 as a reward, one gave me 5 lockpicks

^^ did all my characters today while my girl was at her moms.. opened a few gifts a week back but nothing good

anyway I stopped by the forums here to see if anyone is having luck.. ended up getting a mini on the 3rd or 4th gift along with the other stuff you see in the inventory clicking away

I'd say go for it if you have em.. pretty good deal

a voltaic spear or bone dragon staff takes way more skill and a lot more farming I haven't even run that fed ex guy- was all from 7 characters and quests

think gonna keep her.. she's a cool looking mini ^^ thanks anet.. I still think there is a guy with a magic button and he presses it for me every so often.. only on my assassin though

Just opened 11 and got three medals to add to my existing collection of three. Now I don't feel so bad for spending my 170something supplies on gifts.

Handy for some extra characters I ran far enough to get into Lion's Arch keep... and their heroes. Multiplying bounties/assassinations FTW...

I did the assassination 5 times... opened all 25 Royal Gifts at once... and got a mini Princess Salma amongst the junk. Yay! That might sound lucky, but that's after opening well over 100 Royal Gifts from pre-nerf Falken runs, and getting junk from all of them.

Seems to me, from forum posts and my own experience - the mini drop rate from Royal Gifts is similar to celestial minis from Lunar Tokens. Rare, but not stupidly rare.

Still hoping for a mini-Livia...

Well - today was my LUCKY day - that day that comes along only once or twice in 5 years. I did about 5 characters through assassination and killed maybe 8 inquisitors in HM. That meant that most characters got to open 7 presents, and one did the whole thing and got to open 11 presents. Total presents I estimate at about 41.

Yes - a set of 3 lovely ladies over the space of the last 15 presents. Selma and Livia were consecutive presents, and Evennia arrived on the 2nd last present of the day.

I am on cloud nine. What are the odds?

If it's a huge jar of buttons that would be awesome. (I have many great memories of at my Baba's house sorting through the jar of buttons she had. Grandparents have the neatest stuff stashed away.)

At least all these scrolls Im getting are having a use. Guildie is doing dwarven brawling to max his survivor.

I swear it's giving same presents in groups. Opening 10-15 in a row now and will end up with 4-5 of the same item, different each batch. One group was 4 Sup ID kits out of 10 presents, one group had 5 MoH, one group had 5 Sup Salvage Kits, another had 4 Expert Salvage Kits.

Seems like they upped the drop levels a bit as virtually everyone on the forum has minis since the last few days.

I finally got around to doing the event and got the following out of my first 12 gifts:
  • Medal of Honor
  • Superior ID Kit
  • 3 Krytan Brandy
  • Miniature Salma
  • 1 Shining Blade Rations
  • 1 Scroll of Rampager's Insight
  • 1 Scroll of Rampager's Insight
  • 4 Shining Blade Rations
  • Shining Blade War Horn
  • 1 Scroll of Hero's Insight
  • 1 Scroll of Resurrection
  • 3 Shining Blade Rations
Didn't really care for the experience scrolls, but I was glad enough to get one of the minis.
